What are your ampless solutions? Any experience with some of the Tech21 products? A Fly Rig looks like a cool option. Then I could leave the G3 at home just for solo practice and recording. I was thinking of getting something like a Samsamp that I could also use with my pedal board and monitor or run directly into a PA. I'm not in an organized band and when I get the opportunity for a live jam it's usually a kind of grab and go/plug and play situation. However, that's not really practical for me. If you have time to tweak during a soundcheck or live rehearsal, there are enough banks and presets available that you could easily have enough patches for multiple guitars, and multiple output options. Settings that sound great through headphones, don't necessarily translate directly to a powered monitor or to a PA. I find that the layout just has too many buttons, knobs, and parameters to fiddle with in a live setting, if you don't have time to tweak it. However I've recently found that it's not as ideal for live playing. I have just been using my fly rig into the system. It is just her, me and a violin player doing folky type Americana stuff. For practice and solo playing, even for recording, it's probably all I need. It's got decent amp and cabinet sims, and lots of effects options, all laid out in a stomp-box type format. The G3 is a great tool for the bedroom player.

I don't need a top of the line professional solution.įor the past couple of years I've stopped using an amp and have been using a Zoom G3 into a Roland Cube 30 monitor (or sometimes two Cube 30s in stereo). First off, I'm a bedroom player that plays at occasional jam sessions.
